Happy Birthday!

Today was my grandpa's birthday AND my aunt L's birthday. They are two of my favorite people in the whole world. For this auspicious day, I made them a special birthday breakfast. My grandpa is 92 years old! After discussing a few options, he decided on "french pancakes" - better known to you and me as "crepes." It was fun calling them "french pancakes" all morning.

I made a big ol' stack of french pancakes, using a 1 1/2 batch of the VWAV crepe recipe. Perfect!

We had many topping options:
homemade raspberry jam
homemade apricot jam
lemon wedges & powdered sugar
maple syrup
homemade applesauce

Also, there was an orange honeydew melon and a big bowl of strawberries, both from yesterday's farmers' market.

I firmly believe that no special breakfast experience is special without the decadent Savory AND Sweet combo, I sauteed up some delicious slices of a Kittee test Undouille sausage. I really like this recipe: the spices pack some heat, but it's not overwhelming. It was a BIG hit with everyone!

So nice to start the day with a full belly.
