VeganMoFo: Beware, the Horror of my Freezer!!

Just to get you in the mood for a spooky Halloween, I have been tagged by Vegan Foodie to put on public display the horrifying situation that is My Freezer. It's a fun little thing that's been going around for a week or so, and I'm generally amazed by how bare and tidy everyone's freezers are.

Ack! Avert your gaze! This is the sight I see when I open my freezer - it's craziness!

On the bottom shelf:
frozen veggies - homemade seitan - blueberries - ice packs - meat bones for doggies (not vegan!) - 2 servings of lasagna - frozen flaky parathas (SO good) - filo dough - homemade peach ice cream - cooked pumpkin - veg scraps for making broth - thai bird chilis - organic green tea from our trip to China - flax meal - almond meal - hazelnut meal - gluten flour - brown bananas

On the top shelf:
sliced bananas - ollaliberries - strawberries - more blueberries - mango - chipotle chilis in adobo sauce - pesto cubes - homemade pasta dough - chestnuts - gnocchi - persian vegetable mix - mediocre cinnamon rolls that need to be made into fronch toast - flax meal - cooked butternut squash - local pomegranate juice - okra - more veggie scraps - cranberries

I guess I should make it a priority to start using some of this stuff up. Maybe after MoFo, I'll do a MoFree and use up the contents of my freezer! One good thing... it keeps me from buying ice cream because there is no room for it!

I have thought many times of getting an extra freezer for the garage, for freezer veggies and grains and such... perhaps it's time?

Wow, I think you have more stuff in your freezer than I have in my whole fridge.

  5. Ha! It's a good thing you have baskets you can pull and go through. Mmmm, I remember how good that peach ice cream is!

Yes, I have lots of stuff like this in the freezer, too. I don't think adding a second freezer is a good idea because of the energy usage/environmental effects (unless there is some small super-efficient model on the market now), but I have to say that I wish I had more freezer space and less fridge space. I have all my nuts and seeds and whole grains/flour in there, plus lots of frozen garden produce.

I am so happy to see a freezer stocked with mostly home-prepared stuff rather than frozen meals. Esp. homemade peach ice cream & all of that fruit. Yum yum.
