VeganMoFo: Gifties from Japan

My mom just got back from a week in Japan, and she brought me some sweet gifties:

Some disposable bento boxes with pretty Japanese patterns printed on them
A cute little runner with orange flowers and black cats - just in time for Halloween
Special soba noodles - what should I do with them??
Sea salt from the town where she was staying
And a long sleeved t-shirt with crazy fun nonsense English on it (already in the laundry pile, which I am most certainly not going to include a picture of!)

I'd love any suggestions for what to do with these Soba noodles. All the soba noodles I've ever seen have been long and thin. Educate me, blogosphere!!

Truth be told, those bento boxes had everyone's lunch in them. But my mom is ever-vigilant and practical - so she had everyone give her their boxes after lunch, took them back to her host family home, washed them all out, and brought them back home with her! They'll be perfect for packaging leftovers for my grandpa!

What a great gift! Are those the soba noodles in the cellophane bag? I have a recipe for soba, chard, walnuts and ginger on my blog, and I think these would work just fine.

  8. The gifts from your mom are lovely! The size of those noodles reminds me of egg noodles. I might be tempted to try a Hungarian Goulash recipe.
