Apricots from Heaven!

O-M-G. My very sweet friend called recently and said "Are you gonna be home for the next 15 minutes? I have something I want to drop by..." So mysterious. I don't know what I thought she'd show up with, but even in my wildest dreams, I didn't imagine it would be an entire flat of perfectly ripe organic Blenheim apricots.

this is what I felt like when I saw that box of apricots

Oh friends, have you ever had a perfectly ripe Blenheim apricot? Because it is one of the best things ever. One of the best reasons to be alive. Definitely the #1 best possible apricot experience. Blenheims are small, but are packed with 100% perfect apricot explosions. They are beautifully orange and rosy and they are flirty little summertime beauties. They are also really hard to come by.

apricot memories

This dear friend of ours knows about my abiding love for apricots and I cannot express how touched I was that she would share her glorious bounty with us!! When I was a little girl, we had an apricot tree in our backyard... and I have such wonderful memories of plucking perfectly ripe apricots straight off the tree - eating them as they were so super soft and almost mushy and warmed from the sun.

Right away I sorted the apricots out into 3 batches:
~ Eat immediately
~ Eat tomorrow/need to be refrigerated
~ Eat this week/can be left out to ripen

I gave some to my yoga teacher and some to my mom and dad, and then Mr. VE&T and I diligently, joyfully made our way through the rest. These are just so special, so perfect, they demand to be enjoyed and savored and photographed and glorified for time immemorial. It's so hard to find an apricot worth eating - even at the farmer's market - and these were just amazing. It was just like being a little girl, out in the driveway with apricot goo dripping down my face and my heart full of summertime happiness.

  2. For a minute, I thought I could smell those apricots. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful friend. We ate a lot of apricots from the Marin farmers market that were heavenly, but I seldom find apricots like that locally. :(
