A few recent tasties...

I have been thinking about chocolate chip cookies for a while now... and today we had our very skilled friend Loren here building our new patio. I decided I'd make a batch and share them with him. Our patio is looking great, and these cookies also turned out great!! These are the "Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies" from "Vive La Vegan" - wow! I really, really like them. I added pecans and dried blueberries too. Mmmm.

Well, even though we gave away half the batch of cookies, Musty and I both ate way too many this afternoon! So, I wanted something light for dinner. I made the Asparagus and Cilantro Soup from "Real Food Daily Cookbook." I've made this once before, and it's really great. Such a great flavor.

Dessert was a few Swedish Fish... When I was growing up, I was a MAJOR candy fiend. Up until about 8 years ago, I had a candy bar almost every day. Then I went vegan, and was saved by my ethics, since most candy bars aren't vegan. Swedish Fish have been a long time favorite, and happily, they are vegan. Sweet little Musty got these for me today, along with some flowers. He knows the way to my heart!

Here's part of my breakfast this morning - all from the farmer's market! Oh the farmer's market is so overwhelming now - there are so many tempting and amazing choices, you can't buy it all!

This was last night's dinner "Athena Barley with Kalamata Olives and Tomatoes" from "Real Food Daily." Yesterday was really hot, so we wanted something summery. This is an easy and tasty meal. I love barley... tasty and such a fun texture. It's got olives, tomatoes, red onion, green onions, parseley, dill, and a nice simple vinagrette.

Snoopy's having a great time, settling into our family just great - in this moment he's curled up in a little doggie bed (with a stuffed doggie toy), next to Stevie Wonder curled up in her bed, with our cat Yummers sleeping on the green chair next to them... so sweet! Lest you think we're forgetting, Dottie Bonkers is konked out on the otherside of the room.

All the food you make from the Real Food Daily book looks delicious- can't believe I had a bad meal there- must've been an off-night...I thought swedish fish were vegan already...your farmer's market's treats look delectable. I love cherries.

And belated congratulations on the new addition in your home, Snoopy looks adorable & it's so great that you were able to give him a home because I think people tend to want puppies...Hurray for you & Musty!

  3. Awww, I love the "slice of puppy and kitty life" description at the end- I'm so glad Snoopy and all the other fur babies are doing well!

And as for your breakfast of champions- I think I just drooled on my keyboard. I still haven't seen that kind of bounty at our farmer's markets- heck, some aren't even open yet. You are so lucky! CHERRIES!!!!!

  8. Those cookies are picture perfect! I actually considered buying that cookbook just for that recipe (even though it seems there are many other good ones in it, as well), is that wrong? They just look soooo good... That bowl of fruit is beautiful, too.

I loved reading about your fur babies - you painted such a cute picture for us! Glad to hear your new addition is settling in well.

  11. I got the sweetest picture in my mind of your animal family!

I haven't tried the blueberries with chocolate, but what a great idea. So far I think the only thing that doesn't go with chocolate is lemon, although I see it paired in lots of recipes.

Your RFD recipes look awesome and I know they taste great. I would give anything to get to your farmers market!

  12. I love the name of your kitty, by the way~ Also, lovely addition of blueberries and nuts in the chocolate chip cookies - I'm a big fan myself.
I have a bag of dried blueberries on my counter just for that purpose waiting for a cooler day!
