The other day, just walking down the street, we met a nice young guy from Israel named Pini. He's a very fun and sweet person, and he called and invited us out to dinner. We caught a rickshaw over to his side of town (and were about 20 minutes late due to crazy traffic!), and headed out to a great spot called Malaki Spice. In fact, this restaurant is featured as the top pick for all of Pune eateries in my Lonely Planet guide book. So it was a great choice.
Here you see me, Jen, Pini, and Abbey. Jen and Abbey are fellow yoginis from Santa Cruz, and are my roomies here in Pune. We had the waiter take this picture once we were all served. Malaki Spice has a huge, fun menu full of things from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and a greater Pan-asian scene... I must say, we all agreed, GOOD FOOD.
I don't even remember the name or content of what I got, other than to know that I loved it. It was some sort of coconut-milk-curry concoction full of tofu and veggies. Seriously hit the spot. Not to mention the delicious and flavorful brown rice, which was worth eating all on its own, and which was a welcome change from the white rice that comes with most Indian meals. If, for some reason, you find yourself in Pune, I would definitely recommend this spot.
Well! I know I already showed you a picture of my last tofu scramble... but I made one again, and tofu scramble night is a big event in our little flat, so you'll just have to appreciate it! You can also see our bunch of tiny bananas (very cute + very tasty = extra good bananas), some orange-type items, and a pomegranete. Mango juice, club soda, and more of the delicious Khakkra (those round crackers from my last post) are also featured. A great dinner!
Speaking of dinner, I'm off to do some cooking now. I've got beans soaking, some brown rice to cook up, and a mountain of veggies. Hopefully I can make up something tasty with all of that!
