A Trip To The Farmer's Market

Santa Cruz is a pretty rad place to live if you like farmer's markets. We have two wonderful year-round markets: Wednesday and Saturday. Then, by April, we have a few more, another Saturday market, Friday afternoon, and Sunday morning. I think there's another one off in another part of the county that I rarely travel to. All these markets are spread around the county... but the farthest one would only be a 20 minute drive. So on days that I'm desperate for some fresh local produce, I don't usually have to wait long. Best of all, one of the biggest year round markets (Saturday morning) is about a 5-minute drive from my house. Yeah!

Here's what I picked up this weekend:
Red lettuce
2 things of cilantro
Red Onion
Carrots
2 English Cucumbers
3 Meyer Lemons (the ones on my tree are still green!)
3 Tomatoes
2 bunches of Scallions
2 bunches of Asparagus
3 Yellow Onions
1 Garlic
1 Avocado
1 fresh Basil
Sugar Snap Peas (YUM! my new favorite snack)
1 bag of Sunflower Sprouts
...oh, and - of course - a half flat of strawberries!

It's all organic except for the basil and the asparagus (but I know for sure that the asparagus is pesticide free)... Not bad!

  12. This reminds me that I need to get my butt to the farmer's market in downtown Boise or one of the others around town. I love the farmer's market. I have been looking into the CSAs around Boise too. I love spring!

  13. thanks for posting this! Its been a little overwhelming to just look at wonderful recipes and then try to learn menu planning (and not around meat anymore) and then to come home with a bunch of food and think.. what am I doing!! To see all your fresh produce and such great variety is so helpful. Hope this makes sense..
