Farmers' Market Haul

Oh, I love this time of year so much... Corn and tomatoes and basil and red peppers all start showing up, and suddenly there are million favorite recipes I can make again (and another million new recipes I can try for the 1st time). I buy about 90% of my produce at the farmers' market, so I pretty much only eat in-season foods. That makes it all the more special when my old friends reappear. Corn just showed up last week, and I think I've eaten it almost every day since then!

Here's what I got this morning:
(all organic! yeah!)
3 baskets of strawberries
a bunch of peaches and nectarines
some broccoli
carrots
Japanese cucumber
basil
avocado
mini gem lettuces and two huge heads of Romaine lettuce
4 ears of corn
lots of little tomatoes

YUM!

    1. Tami, we are so lucky here - we pretty much get strawberries from April through October, sometimes even November. They just grow and grow and grow. It's pretty great.

  3. I am still waiting for corn here. I want to make one of the recipes from your zine 3 years ago, pan roasted with tomatoes and tempeh bacon.

  4. That's a good looking load of veggies. I love when asparagus season comes in in England - you know it's going to be so short, it becomes a race to eat as much as you can as quickly as you can!

  5. Haul and how! Gorgeous stuff. I'm missing my organic CSA share this year but sadly, I would not have had the time to use it all up.

  6. I highly admire your commitment to eating seasonal/local foods! It's a reminder that I should be doing the same in the summer. We have such a short growing season here in Saskatchewan that needs to be savoured while it lasts! Everything in your haul looks awesome...I definitely want that basil!
