Product Review: Parmela Parmesan

Have you tried this stuff? Recently I was having an indulgent moment over at Vegan Essentials ... stocking up on some truly non-essential items (read: white chocolate bars). I was cruising around, looking to see if there was anything else I wanted to toss into my shopping cart at the last minute, and I saw this product and went for it.

Verdict? It's really good! That little tub is truly little, I think it's about 1/2 cup in there. That's okay though, because you just need a couple of teaspoons to get a good parm-y flavor blast. I especially like this stuff because somehow the aging makes it taste like more than just nuts 'n' nooch (which is mostly what it is). This one has an appropriate funk to it, if you know what I mean. It's gluten-free, and vegan, but it's got almonds and soy in it... just so you know.

sprinkled on my minestrone soup

I've been sprinkling my Parmela on all sorts of things: soup, collard greens, toast with avocado... it's uses are limitless! I'll definitely get more when I run out of this little tub. Also, it's handy because it doesn't need to be refrigerated until after you've opened it, which makes it easy to have some on hand in your pantry. Try it out!

I recently discovered that Yummers really loves nutritional yeast.
I bet he'd like this stuff too... but he'd better keep his paws off it!

I've found that ever since I switched over to vegan parmesan (I make mine with walnuts, nutritional yeast and miso), I put it on all sorts of things that I never would have considered putting real cheese on! And I don't have to feel guilty about it, because it's actually good for you! (I use walnuts in particular because I don't really like them on their own, but ALA is so important.)
