Yellow Party!

This summer, we had our house repainted. After much deliberation, we settled on this marvelous yellow. We love it. So, to celebrate, we had a yellow party today. Everyone brought a yellow dish to share, and wore whatever yellow they had in their closet. Happily, I had an excuse to wear my bright yellow t-shirt from Mostar, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Here's a close up of my yellow meal... details below:

Kristy's Yellow Squash and Potato Soup... veganized, smooth, and delicious. Kristy also brought her famous, and beautiful lemon squares. But they are not vegan. So, I wasn't sure about the ethics of posting non-vegan food porn. Perhaps I will try out the vegan lemon bars from Joy of Vegan Baking.

Of course there was lemonade.

Laura veganized her grandmother's corn casserole dish. How rad is that? I feel so grateful to my sweet and loving friends for their willingness to veganize their dishes. This was a very cool bread-pudding type of casserole with a very clear and true corn flavor. Savory, but reflecting the natural sweetness of the corn. Really nice.

I made one of my very favorites, Torta di Ceci (aka Socca). So delicious. I swear, I can seriously chow on this stuff. Nutty, slightly eggy, savory, crusty on the outside, creamy on the inside...

No, this is not a yellow picture! Do not adjust your screen! I made a yellow salad with goodies from this morning's farmers' market: lemon cucumber, yellow bell pepper, golden beets (steamed), yellow beans (steamed), fresh corn, and bright yellow cherry tomatoes. I mixed up a simple vinaigrette with shallots, red wine vinegar, lemon, S&P, and olive oil.

In the back is a big tray of delicious yellow watermelon cubes.

Lemon Bundt Cake from "Joy of Vegan Baking" - what a great cake. Turned out great, with a light, airy crumb. The cake baked perfectly, released easily, and tasted great.

What really made the cake so delicious was this Lemon Sauce, also from JoVB. Mmmmmm

Now I want to have parties celebrating every color in the spectrum!

  13. What a fabulous looking party! I love the yellow theme - very fun. Good for you for choosing such an awesome color for your house, too. People around here tend to stick with a lot of white - boring!
