Well! On Friday I pulled a calf muscle. Kinda badly. It's "funny," because it happened while I was just happily trotting down the hall at yoga class - not while doing some spectacular yoga pose. I felt a little *pop* and then it pretty much hurt like CRAZY after that. I tried a couple of things to see if it was a cramp, but I was not optimistic. Soon enough I had to hobble out of class, send a friend to get my car, and came home with my tail between my legs.
I spent that evening (and indeed, most of the weekend) employing R.I.C.E (rest - ice - compression - elevation). Instead of cooking dinner and cleaning the kitchen, I laid on the sofa and watched "Lincoln." Just as the house was dark (I couldn't even get up to turn on the lights), Mr. VE&T arrived home. He turned the lights on (thank you), and also he came bearing a truly delicious dinner for me. He'd gone down to the fancy-pants bakery and deli by our house, and brought me grilled summer squash, ginger miso tofu (so. freaky. good), and beet salad. Then, he went in the kitchen and beautifully plated the food (so sweet!!!) and warmed it in the oven for me. I was very grateful, and very touched. It sure is nice to have someone to take care of you when you're down and out.
Turns out, not being able to walk is kind of a drag. I couldn't go to the farmers market, can't spend the day cooking, can't clean the house, can't be of much help at all... can't even do my own grocery shopping. So, Mr. VE&T suggested I make him a list and a map of the grocery store, so that he wouldn't have to bumble his way all around the store. What a good idea! It was sort of a funny challenge to visualize and map out my favorite store from memory. There were only about 12 things on my list, but it took the poor guy about 1 hour to get through it. But, I must say, he got 100% of everything, the right brands and all.
Yesterday & today I'm able to limp along at a slow pace, way more than I could when it first happened... I even managed to host a slow-motion potluck with friends yesterday (more on that later). So my glory days of being waited on hand and foot are probably over. But I'll probably still send Mr. VE&T to the store today for Almond milk. At least now he knows where it is.
the picture is lame, because I couldn't really move. but the food was not lame
